Engineering Logbook
· All students
are required to keep their OWN logbook of their project whether they are doing a science fair project or the engineering projects.
The logbook must be bound (not spiral) and should contain ALL aspects of the project from beginning to end. For team projects,
each team member must maintain their own logbook.
· Leave the first three or four pages blank so you can add a table of contents.
The table of contents should include the pages where the following are found: background research, initial designs, any preliminary
testing performed, entries covering all work done during the construction phase, changes made in the design, final sketches
and how you would improve on your design.
· The logbook is a complete diary of your project including each step in
the process, phone numbers, conversations, thoughts, bibliography, etc. It is not merely a final summary of the project. The
logbooks will be collected and graded during each semester as well as for a final grade in May.
· Each day you make an entry you should start a new page, give the date and number the pages. Remember
to make entries only on one side of the page. It is also a good idea to initial or sign the bottom of each page.
· Logbooks will be evaluated on the following criteria: pages are numbered,
entries are made on only one side of the page, each new date starts on a new page, all aspects of the project are included
such as background research, initial designs, entries covering all work done during the construction phase, final sketches
and how you would improve on your design.
· You may tape emails, printouts, graphs, etc. into the logbook. Do not
staple. Large printouts can be kept in a separate binder such as articles found during background research, large emails,
photos, etc.
